'Ez School Bus Locator' is an innovative twin-app solution that:

- Is custom made for schools/parents to help track students on bus rides from home to school and back

- Supports both non-Internet phones and smartphones to get the location details of the bus, and the availability information of the child (in the bus)

This app comprises two modules - 'Ez School Bus Locator-Parent' and 'Ez School Bus Locator-Attender'. Both these modules work together and need to be downloaded separately from the Google Play Store.

This twin-app solution uses:

- QR Code scanning so students can check in and out from the bus

- GPS to track the bus location

- Automated SMS messages to keep parents informed

Schools who want to use the Ez School Bus Locator mobile app solution need to generate QR Codes for each student (one time process) to store his/her parent’s mobile number and the Student ID. A free custom QR Code Generator tool that we have developed (using Visual Basic programming) for you is available for free download. Please use this (tool) for generating QR Codes for your students.

'Ez School Bus Locator' app solution, developed by Arjun - a seventh grade school student from Velammal Vidyashram School in Surapet, Chennai, India - helped him win the first prize (K-8 Category) in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) App Inventor App Contest held in December 2012. The judges praised this app as 'one of the most creative and well thought out apps of any age group in the contest'!
